Nicola Sturgeon Avoids Peter Murrell Contact Since His Imprisonment for SNP Embezzlement

Former First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has not spoken to her estranged husband, Peter Murrell, since his imprisonment for embezzling funds from the Scottish National Party (SNP). Murrell, the SNP's former chief executive, received a sentence of one year and nine months in prison after admitting to diverting more than £1,000 from party accounts.

Ms Sturgeon, speaking on a podcast, clarified that she has not been in contact with Murrell since his conviction and stated unequivocally that she has no plans to visit him in prison. Murrell’s conviction stemmed from an investigation into SNP finances, during which he confessed to falsifying the party's accounts to conceal the transfer of funds.

The police investigation into the SNP's financial affairs, dubbed Operation Branchform, has been ongoing for some time, resulting in the arrests of both Murrell and former SNP Treasurer Colin Beattie, who was later released without charge.
