Nigerian Authorities Apprehend Arturo Carrera Loaiza at Lagos Airport
Nigerian anti-drug operatives have arrested Arturo Carrera Loaiza, alleged to be a Mexican drug kingpin, at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) announced his apprehension, asserting he was a principal figure behind a methamphetamine super-lab uncovered in Nigeria in 2021.
Previous Operations and Denial
Mr Loaiza's arrest follows a two-year intelligence operation by the NDLEA. Agency spokesman Femi Babafemi stated that the suspect had allegedly evaded capture during the 2021 raid on a clandestine methamphetamine production facility in Victoria Garden City, Lagos. This particular laboratory, which reportedly produced industrial quantities of the illicit substance, was dismantled, leading to the arrest of several Nigerian suspects and four Mexican nationals. Mr Loaiza denies involvement in the methamphetamine production.

The NDLEA's operation in 2021 was part of a concerted effort to disrupt international drug trafficking networks operating within Nigeria.
