Noah Woods Exited Playground Through Fence Gap, Coroner Investigates Boy's Death

A Staffordshire coroner is examining the circumstances surrounding the death of Noah Woods, aged two, who drowned after leaving a public playground in Lichfield. The inquest was informed that the toddler exited the enclosed play area through an approximate 60cm gap in the fence.

Noah's mother, Victoria Woods, detailed how her son was found deceased in a pond at Elbow Brick Park, less than 50 metres from the playground, on 20 June 2023. She recounted noticing Noah's absence from the swing and then discovering the gap in the fencing, which had been concealed by foliage.

Ms Woods stated she had previously reported the fence damage to Lichfield District Council, urging them to undertake a review of playground safety measures. A representative from the council informed the inquest that a new fence has since been installed at the site.

During the proceedings, Ms Woods delivered a heartfelt statement, imploring other parents to "hold their children a little tighter and cherish every moment."
