Norfolk Teenager Denies 16 Charges Including Explosives, Firearm, Blackmail at Westminster Magistrates
A 17-year-old, whose identity remains protected by law, attended Westminster Magistrates' Court on Friday to plead not guilty to 16 charges. The allegations stem from his arrest in April last year at his south Norfolk home.
Extensive Charges Include Explosives and Racial Hatred
The charges against the teenager include manufacturing explosives, possessing a firearm, and the possession and dissemination of documents deemed useful for terrorist purposes. He is also accused of inciting racial hatred, with specifics detailing the alleged creation of "black powder" and "improvised flash powder" from match heads and potassium nitrate in April 2023.
Further charges allege that in March last year, the individual displayed white supremacist material, distributed "threatening, abusive or insulting" flyers to provoke racial hatred, and defaced a council wall with white supremacist graffiti.
Blackmail and Deepfake Allegations
Beyond the terror-related charges, the teenager faces accusations of online blackmail. He is alleged to have posed as a teenage girl to solicit sexual images from men, subsequently attempting to extort money. Additionally, he is accused of creating deepfake sexual images of six teenage girls using their social media photographs.
Accompanied by his parents, the teenager confirmed his details and entered his pleas. The case has now been referred to the Old Bailey, with the next hearing scheduled for 15 May. He has been released on bail, subject to conditions including daily home residence, notification of internet-enabled devices to police, restrictions on carrying spray cans, and prohibitions against contacting witnesses or leaving the country.
