Norway's King Harald V Hospitalised for Rare Blood Condition, Royal Family Gathers

King Harald V, the 87-year-old monarch of Norway, is currently receiving treatment at Rikshospitalet in Oslo for a rare blood infection. The Royal Court confirmed the King's hospitalisation, noting his condition is stable but requires ongoing care.

Members of the Norwegian royal family have been observed visiting the King at the hospital. Queen Sonja, Crown Prince Haakon, and Princess Märtha Louise were all photographed arriving at the medical facility on Tuesday.

This marks King Harald's second hospitalisation this year, following a previous stay in January where he was treated for a respiratory infection. The King also underwent heart surgery in 2020. Despite these health challenges, he continues to perform his royal duties, although his schedule has been adjusted on several occasions due to health concerns.

Norway operates as a constitutional monarchy, where the King holds a largely ceremonial role, but remains the head of state. Public interest in the monarch's health is consistently high.
