Oleshky Evacuation Corridor Opens, Hundreds Remain in Russian-Occupied Ukrainian Town
An evacuation corridor has opened from Oleshky, a Ukrainian town currently under Russian occupation, facilitating the departure of residents from the frontline area. Ukrainian authorities reported establishing the route to enable civilians to leave the devastated settlement.
However, reports indicate that several hundred individuals have opted to stay in Oleshky, despite the severe degradation of infrastructure. The town currently lacks essential services, including gas, electricity, and running water, rendering living conditions extremely challenging.
The strategic importance of Oleshky, located in the Kherson region, has made it a focal point in the ongoing conflict. Civilian populations in such areas frequently endure the harshest consequences of military engagements, often facing difficult choices between displacement and enduring perilous conditions.
