Omar Majed Charged with False Communications Over Birmingham Peter Kay Show Evacuation
Omar Majed, 19, from Washwood Heath, Birmingham, has been charged with false communications following a bomb hoax at the Utilita Arena during a Peter Kay show. Mr Majed is expected to appear before Birmingham magistrates on Monday, according to West Midlands Police.
The incident occurred on Friday evening, approximately 45 minutes into Kay's performance, when a report of a suspicious bag prompted the immediate evacuation of the venue. Police conducted searches and stated, "Following searches, nothing suspicious was found." They further thanked the public for their co-operation, adding, "As always our priority is the safety of the public."
The NEC Group has advised that ticket holders will be contacted regarding next steps via their original purchase outlet. Saturday's planned show at the Utilita Arena proceeded as scheduled, with the venue detailing enhanced security measures for attendees.
Peter Kay's "Better Late Than Never" national tour is donating all profits to 12 prominent cancer charities. Upcoming performances are scheduled for Belfast, Liverpool, Sheffield, and Leeds.
