Paris Suburb Shooting Suspect Hospitalised for Psychiatric Observation After Fatal Incident
The man apprehended in connection with a deadly shooting in the Val-d'Oise department, north of Paris, has been transferred to a psychiatric facility for observation. This follows an incident on Friday where a local mayor's assistant was killed and two police officers sustained injuries.
Prosecutor Guillaume Faury stated the suspect, identified as a 35-year-old local resident, is undergoing evaluation to ascertain if his psychiatric health permits further questioning. Following the shooting, the individual barricaded himself in his home before surrendering to the GIGN, France's elite police tactical unit.
The mayor's assistant, a 54-year-old woman, was shot dead. Two GIGN officers were also wounded, though their injuries are not considered life-threatening.
