Nottinghamshire Mother Dies Rescuing Sons from Bahamas Current During Anniversary Trip
Leanne Gregory, 38, from Stapleford, Nottinghamshire, died heroically in the Bahamas after entering the sea to rescue her two sons, aged seven and ten. The children had been pulled out by a powerful current at a beach near their hotel on Tuesday. Both boys were subsequently saved, but Ms Gregory sadly perished.
Ms Gregory and her husband, Paul, were observing their tenth wedding anniversary with a family holiday. An official statement from the Royal Bahamas Police Force confirmed the incident, detailing that the children had been in distress after being swept away by a strong current. Ms Gregory's body was recovered by a local diver.
The family has since returned to the UK, grappling with the profound loss. The incident underscores the latent dangers of powerful ocean currents, even in seemingly tranquil holiday destinations.
