Penarth Couple Claims £115 Restaurant Walk-Out Was "Misunderstanding"
A couple who reportedly left The Old Custom House in Penarth without settling a £115 restaurant bill on Sunday evening has contacted the establishment, claiming the incident was merely a “misunderstanding”. The extensive bill included a £52 Dover sole, calamari, and eight Coca-Colas.
The restaurant owner, Lee Skeet, confirmed he had reported the matter to South Wales Police following the couple's unexplained departure. Skeet later stated the couple had made contact, asserting they had intended to pay.
According to Skeet, the couple's explanation centred on one individual going outside for a cigarette while the other was allegedly in the toilet. They then both left the premises without paying. Skeet expressed scepticism regarding this account, particularly given the total cost of the meal.
South Wales Police has confirmed that the incident was reported and investigations are ongoing. This event follows a period of heightened economic pressure on local businesses, where such alleged offences can significantly impact already thin margins.
