Plaid Cymru Unveils Senedd Election Pledges on NHS, Childcare, and Economy
Plaid Cymru Sets Out Vision for Wales Ahead of Senedd Election
Plaid Cymru has released details of its Senedd election pledges, presenting what it describes as a "bold and confident vision" for Wales's future. Party leader Rhun ap Iorwerth affirmed that a Plaid Cymru government would prioritise action in critical areas, including the National Health Service, childcare, and economic growth.
Addressing the forthcoming manifesto launch, Mr ap Iorwerth stated, "Our manifesto sets out a new direction for Wales – one rooted in fairness but driven by ambition." He pledged to "take action where it is needed most", specifically targeting reductions in NHS waiting times, providing support for parents with childcare expenses, elevating educational standards, and cultivating a more robust Welsh economy beneficial to local communities.
Among the party's outlined priorities are initiatives to channel more public sector contracts towards Welsh enterprises to bolster local businesses. Furthermore, Plaid Cymru intends to increase investment in housing, focusing on upgrading and retrofitting existing stock, and implementing measures to safeguard renters' interests.
With the Senedd election scheduled for 7 May, Plaid Cymru aims to secure enough seats to potentially form a minority government, a scenario that would necessitate cross-party cooperation to pass legislation in the Senedd. The election will see voters elect 96 new Members of the Senedd, an increase from the current 60, across 16 new constituencies.
