Police Admit Unlawful Entry and Assault on Nottinghamshire Couple, Halting Trial
Nottinghamshire Police have admitted that officers unlawfully entered the home of Andrew and Sabrina Fearn, and subsequently assaulted the couple, leading to the collapse of their trial. The couple had been accused of resisting arrest and assaulting an emergency worker.
The force's admission came after body-worn camera footage, initially withheld, revealed the illegal entry and use of force. District Judge Leo Pyle halted the trial at Nottingham Magistrates' Court, stating the officers' actions constituted a 'gross interference with fundamental human rights'.
The incident occurred on 10th February 2022, after police responded to a reported dispute. Despite being denied entry, officers forced their way into the couple's property. Mr Fearn was tasered multiple times, and both were subjected to what the court deemed unlawful restraint.
This case underscores persistent concerns regarding police accountability and transparency in the UK. The Independent Office for Police Conduct is now investigating the officers involved, raising questions about internal oversight and the initial justification for the arrests.
