Police Attacked as Illegal Rave Shut Down in Dorset
Dorset Police officers were subjected to missile attacks and a hostile environment whilst working to shut down an illegal rave in East Lulworth. The event, which commenced late on Saturday evening, drew an estimated 2,000 attendees and over 100 vehicles to the beauty spot.
Officers were engaged in dispersing the gathering through until Sunday evening, during which time they encountered significant resistance. Ten arrests were made for various offences, including driving under the influence and assaulting an emergency worker. Police also seized equipment and implemented road closures to manage the situation.
Assistant Chief Constable Steve Lyne of Dorset Police condemned the violence, stating, "Violence in our communities and against our officers will not be tolerated." He further emphasised the illegal nature of such events and the disruption they cause, highlighting the unacceptable nature of violence directed at officers fulfilling their duties.
The force has confirmed that evidence gathered from the scene is currently being reviewed to identify any further offences and prosecute those responsible for the disturbances.
