Police Name 88-Year-Old Jill Gant, Abingdon Murder Investigation Underway
Thames Valley Police have formally identified the elderly woman discovered deceased at a property in Abingdon as 88-year-old Jill Gant. Officers were dispatched to a residence on Monday, 25 November, following reports of a sudden death. Paramedics declared Ms Gant deceased at the scene.
A murder investigation commenced after a post-mortem examination proved inconclusive regarding the cause of death. However, police stated there were indications of a 'medical incident' that necessitated further inquiry.
A 40-year-old man from Abingdon was arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with Ms Gant's death. He has since been released on police bail until 26 February 2025. Authorities have confirmed that the arrested individual was known to the deceased.
Senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Peter Alcroft stated, "We continue to investigate the circumstances of Jill's death and a man has been arrested and bailed in connection with the incident." He added that Ms Gant's family is receiving support from specialist officers during this period.
Police have asked anyone with information relevant to the investigation to come forward.
