Police Officers Investigated for Gross Misconduct Over Henry Nowak Death
Two police officers are now subject to a gross misconduct investigation following the death of 18-year-old Henry Nowak. Mr Nowak was fatally stabbed by Vickrum Digwa in December 2025, and officers handcuffed him while he was dying.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) announced the escalation of the inquiry. Originally, the watchdog initiated a conduct investigation into three officers after the incident, assessing whether their actions contributed to Mr Nowak's death.
The IOPC stated that, following a thorough review of the evidence, the conduct investigation into one of the officers has concluded, with no further action required against them. However, the remaining two officers now face a gross misconduct investigation. This level of inquiry indicates a belief that there is a case to answer regarding their adherence to professional standards, potentially warranting dismissal.
Vickrum Digwa, 18, was subsequently found guilty of Mr Nowak's murder and sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 17 years.
