Cabinet Purge and Ministerial Appointments

Among the most prominent dismissals were the Foreign Secretary, Justice Secretary, and Culture Secretary, all figures closely associated with the previous administration. In their place, Burnham has appointed Dame Margaret Clark as Foreign Secretary, a move seen as consolidating his authority. David Evans, a long-standing ally, takes up the position of Justice Secretary, while Sarah Khan assumes responsibility for the Culture, Media and Sport brief.

However, the swift transitions have not quelled calls for a general election. Opposition leaders, including Labour's Sir Keir Starmer and Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey, argue that Burnham lacks a popular mandate and should seek public endorsement for his new government. The Labour Party has specifically urged Burnham to allow the public to "have their say" on the future direction of the country.
