Reform UK Facebook Page Criticises Welsh Minister Sian Gwenllian Over Family Bereavement Comments

A local Reform UK Facebook page for Dwyfor Meirionnydd has faced considerable backlash after publishing a post criticising Plaid Cymru Senedd member Sian Gwenllian. The contentious post targeted Ms Gwenllian for speaking publicly about the recent death of her husband, Dafydd Iwan.

Ms Gwenllian, who represents Arfon, had given interviews discussing her bereavement and the challenges of adjusting to life without her husband. The Reform UK Dwyfor Meirionnydd page, however, suggested that Ms Gwenllian was using her personal tragedy for political purposes, framing her discussions as an attempt to garner sympathy.

The post quickly drew condemnation from across the political spectrum, with numerous individuals and organisations decrying it as insensitive and inappropriate. Critics highlighted the perceived lack of empathy and the attack on a grieving individual. Following the widespread negative reaction, the post was removed from the Reform UK Dwyfor Meirionnydd Facebook page.
