Rohan Dennis Pleads Guilty to Driving Whilst Disqualified Months After Wife's Death
Olympic cyclist Rohan Dennis has pleaded guilty to driving whilst disqualified, an offence that occurred when he was stopped by police in Adelaide last month. The former world champion appeared in court via video link, where his lawyer entered the plea on his behalf. Dennis, aged 33, was pulled over by South Australia Police at Fullarton on 15 March, approximately two and a half months after the death of his wife, Melissa Hoskins.
Hoskins, a former professional cyclist, died on 31 December 2023 after being struck by a ute in Medindie, an inner-northern suburb of Adelaide. Dennis was subsequently charged with causing death by dangerous driving, driving without due care, and endangering life. He has yet to enter a plea to these more serious charges, which are scheduled for a court hearing in August.
Dennis represented Australia at three Olympic Games and won two world titles in the individual time trial. Hoskins, aged 32 at the time of her death, was part of the Australian team pursuit squad that competed at the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
