Russell Brand's Barrister Ian Winter Refers Himself to Regulator After Journalist Confrontation
Ian Winter KC, the barrister who represented Russell Brand during his rape trial, has voluntarily referred himself to the Bar Standards Board (BSB). This action follows allegations that he confronted a journalist outside Southwark Crown Court, a reporter who had been involved in the investigation into the comedian.
The alleged incident took place on 28th November, immediately after Brand was found guilty of five counts of rape, sexual assault, and assault by penetration. Brand was subsequently sentenced to 24 years in prison for the offences committed between 2006 and 2013.
A spokesperson for the Bar Standards Board confirmed that a referral had been received concerning Mr Winter and that the matter is currently under review. The BSB is responsible for setting and maintaining professional standards for barristers in England and Wales. Details of the alleged confrontation have not been publicly disclosed by Mr Winter or the BSB, but sources indicate it pertained to the journalist's prior work on Brand's conduct.
