Ryanair Removes Charges for Adults to Sit with Young Children
Ryanair has confirmed it will cease charging adult passengers a fee to sit alongside children under the age of 12. This policy reversal comes after sustained pressure from the UK's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), which had highlighted the previous charges as an area of concern regarding consumer fairness.
Previously, Ryanair typically imposed an additional charge of £8 per adult, per leg of a journey, to guarantee a seat next to a young child. This practice often resulted in families either paying the extra amount or risking being seated separately.
The airline stated it would implement the change immediately, applying to all new bookings. For existing bookings where parents have already paid to sit with their young children, Ryanair has indicated that refunds will be processed. This move aligns Ryanair with several other airlines that already offer free seating arrangements for families with young children.
