
Seven Arrested After Newborn Girl's Death in Sheffield, South Yorkshire
South Yorkshire Police have confirmed the arrest of seven people in connection with the death of a newborn baby girl in Sheffield. Officers were dispatched to a property on St Lawrence Road in the Wincobank area at approximately 19:15 BST on Friday, 19th January, responding to reports of concerns for a baby’s welfare.
Upon arrival, emergency services found a newborn girl, who was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene. The individuals arrested include five men and two women, aged between 24 and 50. All seven remain in police custody as enquiries continue into the circumstances surrounding the infant’s death.
Detective Chief Inspector Andrea Campbell, the senior investigating officer, stated that a forensic post-mortem examination is scheduled to determine the cause of death. She emphasised the ongoing nature of the investigation and requested that the public refrain from speculation, particularly on social media, to avoid hindering the proceedings. Police are appealing for anyone with relevant information to contact them directly.
