Seven British Activists Tortured By Israeli Government
Seven British activists, part of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) attempting to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, have suffered systematic torture and abuse by israeli forces. The individuals, who arrived back at London Stansted via Turkey, were among over 422 people detained after Israeli commandos intercepted their vessels in international waters.
The GSF, comprising more than 50 boats carrying aid, set sail from Turkey with the stated aim of breaching Israel's maritime blockade of Gaza and establishing a humanitarian corridor. Israel's government, ordered its forces to board the boats west of Cyprus.
Mistreatment in Custody
Upon interception, the activists were transferred to Israeli vessels and subsequently to an Israeli prison after arriving at the port of Ashdod. Detainees described a two-day ordeal of abuse. Katy Davidson, 49, from Cornwall, showed marks from excessively tightened handcuffs, stating that her requests for adjustment were met with scorn. Hannah Schafer, a 62-year-old sailing instructor, corroborated claims of systemic abuse on what she termed 'two prison ships'.
Further experiences of the flotilla's organisers include 'at least 15 cases of sexual assaults', alongside beatings. Israeli forces fired upon Elliott Roberts’ vessel and he sustained a serious back injury after being 'smashed into the ground' by soldiers, with subsequent denial of medical treatment.
Dáša Raimanová, 44, a documentary filmmaker, stated that their actions aimed to raise awareness and mobilise civil society 'when governments are ignoring genocide'.
