Singapore Airlines Turbulence Death: UK Woman Sues Carrier After Husband's Fatal Injuries

Linda Kitchen is suing Singapore Airlines for the death of her husband, Geoffrey Kitchen, 73, who died aboard Flight SQ321 in May. The flight, travelling from London to Singapore, encountered extreme turbulence over the Irrawaddy Basin, leading to Mr Kitchen's death and numerous injuries among passengers and crew.

Legal Action Initiated

Lawyers representing Mrs Kitchen stated her husband was "fatally injured" during the incident, which saw the aircraft ascend and then abruptly drop 6,000 feet in approximately three minutes. The complaint has been filed in the United States, a common jurisdiction for such international aviation cases.

Mr Kitchen was en route to a holiday in Singapore and Australia with his wife when the incident occurred. The flight, carrying 211 passengers and 18 crew, was diverted to Bangkok where medical personnel attended to the injured. Authorities confirmed Mr Kitchen died from a suspected heart attack during the event.

Singapore Airlines has previously offered compensation to those injured, ranging from $10,000 for minor injuries to a more comprehensive package for severe cases. However, the airline has not yet publicly responded to Mrs Kitchen's lawsuit.
