Singer D4vd Arrested in Connection with Teen Girl's Death
Twenty-one-year-old US singer David Anthony Burke, known professionally as D4vd, has been apprehended by the Los Angeles Police Department in connection with the death of Celeste Rivas Hernandez. He is currently being held without bail, and his case is scheduled to be presented to the District Attorney's office on Monday.
The arrest follows a protracted investigation that began on 8 September last year, when the 14-year-old's decomposed remains were found in the front boot of a Tesla registered to Burke's Texas address. The vehicle was located in a Hollywood tow yard after reports of a foul odour.
Authorities had been treating the case as a death investigation for months, with the county's medical examiner deferring a cause of death due to the body's severely decomposed state. Officials suggested she may have been deceased for several weeks prior to discovery. Celeste Rivas Hernandez had been reported missing by her family in April 2024.
Key Developments Emerge
A grand jury began hearing evidence in December, identifying Burke as a 'target' in the investigation and potentially subject to murder proceedings. Court filings from a separate Texas case, where Burke's father contested a summons to testify, revealed previously undisclosed details.
These details included the clothing and jewellery Celeste was wearing, and a significant revelation: a 'Shhh…' tattoo on her index finger, nearly identical to one on the singer's own finger. Following the discovery of the body, D4vd cancelled his world tour and has largely retreated from the public eye. His representatives had previously stated he was cooperating with authorities.
