The arrests, made on Thursday, involved four men and one woman, aged between 23 and 47, at various addresses within the borough.
Police initiated a full investigation following reports of irregularities concerning candidates in the St Peter's ward, received both before and after the 7 May election. A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police stated the inquiry specifically targets the adherence of candidate nomination procedures to relevant legislation and electoral protocols.
The force is collaborating closely with the Electoral Commission and local partners as the investigation proceeds. Labour secured the St Peter's ward with 1,352 votes in the recent elections, despite losing overall control of Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council. An independent candidate garnered 1,175 votes, while Reform UK received 864.
