Tanzania Ruling Party Expels Vice Chairman Nchimbi, Names Kitila Mkumbo Successor

The Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party in Tanzania has announced the expulsion of its national vice chairman, Philip Mangula Nchimbi, effective immediately. The party leadership cited 'indiscipline' as the grounds for Nchimbi's removal.

The decision follows Nchimbi's earlier resignation this week, which was widely reported to stem from a significant disagreement with President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who also serves as the party chairperson. Nchimbi had been a prominent figure within the CCM for many years.

In a subsequent move, the CCM has appointed Kitila Mkumbo to assume the role of national vice chairman. Mkumbo's appointment signals a swift reorganisation within the party's upper echelons following Nchimbi's contentious departure.
