Ten Families Sue UK School Over 'Inhumane' Calming Room Practices, Allege Child Harm

Ten families have initiated legal proceedings against a UK school, alleging their children experienced inhumane treatment within designated 'calming rooms'. The legal challenge centres on claims that children were subjected to prolonged isolation, physical restraint, and in some cases, denied essential provisions like food and water.

Legal counsel for the families contends that these 'calming rooms' were frequently utilised to manage children with special educational needs and disabilities. It is alleged that children, some as young as five, were placed in these rooms, described as windowless and containing only a mattress, for extended periods. One child reportedly spent an entire school day in such a room without access to a toilet.

The legal action includes specific allegations of children being locked in these rooms, forcibly restrained, and made to eat meals on the floor. Parents assert that these methods constituted unlawful detention and a serious breach of their children's rights. The school has not yet issued a public statement regarding these specific allegations, and the case is proceeding through the courts.
