Tewkesbury MP Cameron Thomas Arrested on Assault and Coercion Suspicions
Gloucestershire Police confirmed the arrest of a man in his 40s from Tewkesbury on Wednesday. The individual, identified as Liberal Democrat MP Cameron Thomas, was interviewed by officers on suspicion of controlling and coercive behaviour and assault, before being released on police bail.
A spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats stated that Mr Thomas's party whip has been suspended. This suspension will remain in effect pending the outcome of the ongoing police investigation into the allegations.
The party emphasised the serious nature of such allegations and underscored the importance of allowing the police to conduct a thorough inquiry, declining to comment further while the investigation is active.
Mr Thomas, 43, was elected as the Member of Parliament for Tewkesbury in the 2024 general election. Prior to his political career, he served as an officer in the Royal Air Force. He will now sit as an independent MP while the police investigation proceeds.
