Thirteen-Year-Old Dies in Salamanca World Cup Celebration Fountain Collapse

A 13-year-old boy has died in Ciudad Rodrigo, Salamanca, following the partial collapse of a fountain during celebrations for Spain's World Cup victory. Two other young people sustained injuries in the incident, which occurred in the Plaza Mayor.

Emergency services received notification of the collapse at approximately 15:40 local time on Sunday. According to initial reports, several individuals had climbed onto the fountain structure when a portion gave way. The 13-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. The injured, both minors, were transported to Salamanca’s Hospital after receiving initial treatment by medical personnel.

Local authorities have initiated an investigation into the precise circumstances leading to the structural failure of the fountain. Ciudad Rodrigo’s mayor has announced a period of official mourning in response to the tragedy.
