Three Men Jailed for Public Order Offences Outside Liverpool John Lennon Airport

Three individuals have been sentenced to prison for their involvement in a disturbance outside Liverpool John Lennon Airport on 10 March. Leon Blundell, 28, received 12 months for affray, while Brian Maxwell, 36, and Liam Watson, 31, were each jailed for eight months for threatening behaviour.

The incident unfolded when Blundell and Maxwell were reportedly involved in an altercation with another group. Watson then emerged from a vehicle armed with a crowbar, escalating the confrontation. Merseyside Police stated that witnesses initially believed the disturbance constituted an “active act of terror” due to the aggressive nature of the behaviour and the proximity to the airport terminal.

Despite the initial perception, the incident was not formally classified as a terror attack. Judge David Aubrey KC, during sentencing at Liverpool Crown Court, underscored the “appalling and disgraceful” nature of the behaviour, noting the fear it instilled in members of the public.

All three men pleaded guilty to the charges. Blundell, of no fixed abode, also admitted to assault occasioning actual bodily harm in relation to a separate incident. Maxwell, from Huyton, and Watson, from Belle Vale, were also sentenced for their roles in the airport disruption.
