Three Women Identified After Deaths on Brighton Beach; Police Rule Out Third-Party Involvement
Sussex Police have identified three women whose bodies were recovered from the sea near Brighton's Black Rock car park earlier this week. Emergency services were initially called at approximately 05:45 BST on Wednesday following reports of a person in the water, leading to the discovery of two additional bodies nearby. Authorities have confirmed there is no evidence suggesting third-party involvement or criminal activity in their deaths.
Heartfelt tributes, including flowers and written messages, have appeared on Brighton Beach. One such message read, "I am so, so sorry. This is such an awful loss and I can't begin to imagine how scared you felt girls. My thoughts are with you and I am devastated for your families and friends. I don't know if you were local but this has had a huge effect on us all."
Police have not yet publicly named the women, stating that official procedures must be completed first. The circumstances leading to the women entering the water remain unclear, though one line of inquiry suggests they may have gone into the sea from the beach and encountered difficulties. The coastguard has concluded its search, confirming no other individuals are believed to be missing.
Sian Berry, MP for Brighton Pavilion, described the incident as "devastating, heartbreaking news," noting its profound impact across the city and beyond.
