Train Conductor Samir Zitouni Used Frying Pan to Repel Attacker Anthony Williams
A Nottingham Crown Court jury heard testimony from train conductor Samir Zitouni, who detailed his use of a frying pan to fend off an attacker, Anthony Williams, on a CrossCountry service. Mr Zitouni described the confrontation in the train's galley, where Williams, armed with a knife, reportedly advanced towards him.
The incident began after Williams allegedly assaulted a passenger in a carriage, prompting Mr Zitouni to intervene. As Williams followed the conductor into the galley, Mr Zitouni grabbed the pan, holding it defensively. He told the court, "I grabbed the frying pan and I was just holding it in front of me."
Williams, aged 43, is facing charges of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, two counts of possessing a knife, and two counts of assault. He denies all charges. The court heard that Williams eventually retreated into a toilet cubicle and discarded the knife. British Transport Police officers subsequently arrested him at Derby station. The trial continues, with further evidence expected regarding the events of that day.
