Travelodge Chief Executive Martin Solly Resigns Following Hotel Key Card Security Failures
Travelodge Chief Executive Martin Solly has stepped down from his role. His departure follows revelations concerning security breaches within the hotel group, particularly issues surrounding guest room key card protocols.
These systemic failures were brought to light after an incident in March, when a woman staying at a Travelodge in Maidenhead was sexually assaulted. The perpetrator had reportedly obtained a key card to her room by providing false information to staff.
Subsequent investigations by consumer organisations and media outlets uncovered widespread vulnerabilities across the hotel chain. It was revealed that staff at multiple Travelodge locations were frequently issuing duplicate key cards to individuals without adequate verification, often based solely on a room number and a name.
This lax approach to security exposed a significant operational flaw, enabling unauthorised access to guest rooms and compromising the safety of patrons. The implications for guest privacy and security have drawn considerable criticism, prompting calls for urgent reforms to internal procedures across the hospitality sector.
