
Umar Dumbuya, 18, Dies in River Wye Incident During Duke of Edinburgh Expedition
Umar Dumbuya, an 18-year-old from the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, died on Monday following a "tragic accident" in the River Wye. The incident occurred at a popular bathing area near Glasbury-on-Wye, Powys, while Dumbuya was participating in a Duke of Edinburgh award expedition.
Emergency services responded to the scene after Dumbuya got into difficulty in the water. Despite efforts by paramedics, he was pronounced deceased.
Barking and Dagenham Council issued a statement confirming Dumbuya's death and expressing condolences to his family and friends. The council highlighted Dumbuya's engagement in the Duke of Edinburgh programme and his status as a sixth-form student, anticipating a future at university.
Dyfed-Powys Police stated that the death is not being treated as suspicious. Investigations are ongoing, and the police are collaborating with partner agencies to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
