Unitree Robotics Shares Climb 172% on Shanghai STAR Market Debut
Hangzhou-based Unitree Robotics, a prominent developer of humanoid robots, experienced a dramatic increase in its share value during its market debut on the Shanghai Stock Exchange's STAR Market. The company's stock opened at CNY#115 (£12.44), more than double its initial public offering price of CNY#52.50 (£5.68), and closed at CNY#142.92 (£15.46).
This substantial gain in Unitree's valuation underscores significant investor interest in advanced robotics and artificial intelligence within China's tech sector. The company has secured notable investments from major players, including the Chinese technology giant ByteDance.
Unitree's public offering involved issuing 63 million shares, successfully raising approximately CNY#3.3 billion (£357 million). The company's market capitalisation now stands at approximately CNY#57 billion (£6.16 billion).
The STAR Market, established in 2019, operates with less stringent profitability requirements compared to other Chinese exchanges, aiming to attract high-growth technology and innovation companies. Unitree's successful listing reflects the broader strategic push in China to dominate key technological frontiers, including robotics, semiconductors, and AI, thereby positioning itself as a global leader in these critical industries.
