
Villahermosa Fairground Fire Kills Five, Injures Many Amid Concert Evacuation
Five people have died following a significant fire at a crowded fairground in Villahermosa, Tabasco state, south-eastern Mexico. The blaze erupted during a concert in the early hours of Thursday, attended by an estimated 135,000 people.
Social media footage depicted scenes of panic as large crowds fled the burning grounds. The cause of the inferno remains undetermined, with investigations expected to commence.
Tabasco Governor Javier May confirmed that emergency services successfully brought the flames under control. He extended his condolences to the families of the victims, assuring them of state support, and commended members of the public who assisted with the evacuation.
Governor May also announced a financial recovery programme aimed at businesses impacted by the incident.
