Welsh Woman Annie Evans-Lewis Dies in East Pingelly, Australia Car Crash
Annie Evans-Lewis, 21, from Llanybri, Carmarthenshire, was living in East Pingelly, south-east of Perth, with her boyfriend, Cai James. She suffered severe injuries after the car she was driving left the road and struck a tree at approximately 15:30 AWST on Saturday.
Ms Evans-Lewis was airlifted to Royal Perth Hospital, where Mr James confirmed he was with her during her final moments. Australian police have initiated an investigation into the incident and have appealed for witnesses.
Mr James, 22, expressed profound grief, stating, "Without Annie it's like I'm missing one leg or one arm." He recounted their plans for a shared future in Australia, where Ms Evans-Lewis had joined him in September 2025 after he secured a three-year farming sponsorship.
Ms Evans-Lewis's mother, Angharad Evans, referred to her daughter as her "whole life," adding, "You were the most amazing, strong brave little girl with what you fought through," referencing Ms Evans-Lewis's childhood battle with leukaemia.
A fundraising page, established by Annie's cousin Emily Davies, has garnered over £32,000 from more than 1,000 donors worldwide. The funds are intended to cover the costs of repatriating Ms Evans-Lewis to Wales and her funeral expenses.
