Woman Sentenced Following Fatal XL Bully Attack on Cousin Morgan Dorsett
Kelcie Reed, 22, has been handed an 18-month suspended sentence for her role in the death of her cousin, Morgan Dorsett, 19, who was killed by an XL bully type dog. The attack occurred at a property in Albert Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, on 2 August 2023.
Ms Reed admitted to being in control of a dangerous dog which caused injury resulting in death, a charge brought under the Dangerous Dogs Act. In addition to the suspended sentence, she has been disqualified from owning dogs for a period of 10 years and must complete 100 hours of unpaid work.
Nottingham Crown Court heard that the dog involved, identified as a female XL bully named Bella, was subsequently humanely destroyed. The court proceedings concluded today, detailing the circumstances of the fatal incident.
This case highlights the continued scrutiny surrounding specific dog breeds, particularly in the wake of recent legislative changes regarding XL bullies in the UK.
