Adina Mihai and Madalin Dumitru Jailed for Manslaughter of Drugged Victims
Adina Mihai, 26, and Madalin Dumitru, 30, have been jailed for the manslaughter of two men they drugged and robbed in separate incidents. Mihai received a sentence of 17 years, whilst Dumitru was handed 15 years in prison. Both were convicted at the Old Bailey of the manslaughter of Joel Amadi, 29, and Adrian Murphy, 51. The court heard how the pair administered Gamma-Butyrolactone (GBL), a recreational drug, to their victims to render them unconscious before stealing their possessions.
Joel Amadi was found dead at an address in north London in July 2020. Police discovered his body after responding to a welfare check. Investigations revealed he had been drugged with GBL, leading to his death. Adrian Murphy, a well-known dancer, was found deceased at his home in Battersea, south-west London, in June 2019 under similar circumstances, also having been administered GBL.
Prosecution lawyers detailed how Mihai and Dumitru targeted the men with the specific intent of incapacitating them for robbery. The use of GBL, known for its sedative effects and potential for fatal overdose, was central to their method. Both defendants were also convicted of conspiracy to administer a noxious substance and multiple counts of theft relating to the stolen items from their victims.
