Anthony Williams Declared 'I Am The Baddest' Before Fatal Train Stabbing, Court Hears
A jury has heard that Anthony Williams, accused of murder, declared "I am the baddest" in the hours leading up to a fatal stabbing on a train. The revelation came during his trial, where it was disclosed that British Transport Police (BTP) had been alerted to concerns about Williams' conduct the day before the attack, yet concluded he posed no immediate threat.
Williams, 30, denies the murder of Lee Pomeroy, 51, who was stabbed 18 times on a train travelling from Guildford to London Waterloo in January. Prosecutor Crispin Aylett QC informed the Old Bailey that a BTP officer spoke with Williams after concerns were raised about his behaviour on a separate train journey. The officer decided not to arrest Williams, deeming him to be "verbally aggressive" but not violent.
The prosecution contends that Williams' subsequent actions against Mr Pomeroy were not self-defence. The court was told that Williams' girlfriend, Chelsea Mitchell, was also present during the fatal incident and has been charged with assisting an offender.
