John McNeil Caught With £14,000 Drugs and Lamb Eating Chips in Glasgow Car
John McNeil, 40, from Rutherglen, avoided a custodial sentence after being found with Class A and B drugs valued at £14,000 in his vehicle. Police on the M74 in Glasgow initially stopped McNeil's car due to concerns over the welfare of a lamb observed eating chips in the back seat.
During a subsequent search, officers located bags containing heroin and cannabis. The presence of the lamb prompted a more thorough inspection of the vehicle, leading to the drug discovery.
McNeil admitted to supplying the drugs at Glasgow Sheriff Court. He was sentenced to a community payback order, requiring him to complete 200 hours of unpaid work. The court heard that the incident occurred on 28th April 2022.
The lamb was removed from the vehicle and subsequently taken to a local veterinary practice for assessment, where it was confirmed to be in good health. It was later rehomed at a farm in Biggar.
