Investigation Underway
Nottinghamshire Police reported that a red Vauxhall Astra was involved, with the driver abandoning the car and leaving the scene. Detectives have clarified that counter-terrorism officers are not involved in the investigation and there is no indication of any broader public threat.
Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow stated, "This was a serious incident which will have caused concern in the community. We believe an argument has taken place in Arnold town centre and this has resulted in a car being driven at a group of people."
Authorities have cordoned off Market Place, alongside junctions from Gedling Road to Derby Street, Hallams Lane, and Central Avenue, as investigations continue. These closures are expected to remain in place for a considerable period, with police advising the public to avoid the area.
Gedling MP Michael Payne expressed his concern for the injured and emphasised community support for the police. Gedling Borough Council leader John Clarke highlighted the need for preventative measures, including barriers, to enhance public safety in the area.
