Extensive Renovation and Purpose

Extensive renovations of the building began in late 2023, transforming the former inn into a functioning police facility. The interior has been thoroughly remodelled, and the building now houses police officers from the local force. Officials have emphasised that the choice of tenant is a deliberate and visible effort to counter any glorification of Hitler or his ideology, projecting an image of law enforcement and democratic values.

This initiative underscores a persistent challenge for Austrian authorities: managing sites associated with its Nazi past while actively combatting extremist sympathies. The government's decisive action on the Braunau property reflects a broader strategy to reappropriate such locations for purposes antithetical to their historical, nefarious connections.
