
Boy, 12, Drowns in Hackney Marshes River Lea, Police Investigate Incident
A 12-year-old boy has drowned in the River Lea at Hackney Marshes. Emergency services were called to the scene on Sunday morning following reports of a person in difficulty in the water.
Police, fire brigades, and ambulance crews, including specialist divers, initiated a search operation near Millfields Road, Clapton, at approximately 06:10 BST.
The boy's body was recovered from the river a short time later. His next of kin have been informed, and they are receiving support from specialist officers.
Police stated that the death is currently being treated as unexplained. Enquiries into the full circumstances of the incident are ongoing.
