Cairngorms Wildfire Under Control, Public Access to Glenmore Forest Park Restricted
A wildfire in the Cairngorms National Park, specifically within Glenmore Forest Park, has been brought under control by fire and rescue services. Despite this, a “very high” risk of further fires persists across the region, prompting continued warnings from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS).
Members of the public are explicitly urged to avoid Glenmore Forest Park and the surrounding Loch Morlich area. This restriction is necessary to allow emergency crews to complete their work and mitigate any lingering hazards. The incident command unit remains operational at the site, coordinating efforts.
The SFRS has maintained its “very high” wildfire warning for the area since 30 May, with the alert set to remain in place until at least 3 June. This cautionary stance reflects the dry conditions and prevalence of combustible vegetation, which could easily reignite. Authorities are appealing to the public for vigilance, stressing the importance of avoiding activities that could inadvertently spark new fires, particularly given the ongoing presence of emergency personnel.
