Catherine Walker Jailed for Nine Years Over Death of Nine-Year-Old Boy

Catherine Walker, a former staff member with Northumbria Police, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for her involvement in the death of a nine-year-old boy. The child, for whom Walker was the legal guardian, was discovered unresponsive in his bedroom in February 2020.

Walker was convicted of causing or allowing the death of a child and child neglect at Newcastle Crown Court. The court heard evidence detailing the circumstances leading to the boy's death.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police stated that Walker had been suspended immediately after her arrest and was subsequently dismissed from the force. The independent Office for Professional Conduct confirmed that no police officers or staff members faced misconduct proceedings in connection with the case.
