Gary Anderson, Convicted Killer, Arrested in Republic of Ireland

Gary Anderson, a convicted killer who had been unlawfully at large for over a week, has been arrested by An Garda Síochána in the Republic of Ireland. Anderson, 39, had absconded after being granted compassionate leave to attend his father's funeral.

He was serving a sentence for the murder of Ian Robinson in Ballymena in 2005. His escape initiated a police search and public appeal for information.

His apprehension follows a period during which concerns were raised about the process allowing convicted individuals to attend such events, particularly given the potential for flight.
