Cleveland Police are investigating the death of a child in Dormanstown, Redcar, following reports of a suspected dog attack. Officers were dispatched to an address on Hardale Grove shortly after 13:30 BST due to concerns for a child's welfare.
Police Response and Investigation
Upon arrival, it was confirmed the child had died, with the cause believed to be a dog bite. Authorities stated that one dog was humanely destroyed at the scene, and a second dog from the property has since been seized.
District Commander Emily Harrison described the incident as 'distressing and tragic', extending thoughts to the child's family. An ongoing investigation is underway, with officers remaining at the address to conduct enquiries. The North East Ambulance Service confirmed that one individual was taken to hospital for treatment following the incident.
