China Dismisses Claims Beijing Agent Targeted Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang
China has refuted accusations from US intelligence that one of its agents attempted to gather information on Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, specifically concerning his travel arrangements and the company's supply chains. These allegations, initially detailed in The New York Times, cite unidentified US officials.
The US government has not publicly commented on the alleged operation, nor has Nvidia issued a statement. The New York Times report indicates that US authorities contacted Huang directly regarding the alleged intelligence operation.
The claims emerge amidst heightened geopolitical competition between Washington and Beijing, particularly over advanced semiconductor technology. The US has imposed stringent export controls on high-end chips and chip-making equipment to China, citing national security concerns. Beijing views these restrictions as an attempt to impede its technological and economic development.
Intelligence officials reportedly suspect a Chinese businesswoman, who has not been publicly identified, was involved in the alleged operation. The US intelligence community has previously asserted that China engages in extensive economic espionage to acquire foreign technology and trade secrets, an accusation Beijing consistently denies, characterising such claims as politically motivated.
