Chris Brown Pleads Guilty to London Nightclub Affray, Avoids Immediate Prison Sentence

American singer Chris Brown has pleaded guilty to affray after striking a man with a glass bottle during a "vicious and unprovoked attack" at a London nightclub. The incident, which took place at the Tape nightclub in Hanover Square on 26 June, left the victim, Shaun Hawkins, requiring 20 stitches for a wound to his head.

Prosecutor Samira Choudhury detailed to Westminster Magistrates' Court how Brown, 35, launched the bottle, which ricocheted off Mr. Hawkins' head before hitting a wall. Ms. Choudhury emphasised the attack's unprovoked nature, stating it occurred without warning.

Brown, who was not present in court but entered his plea via his legal team, received a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months. He was also ordered to pay Mr. Hawkins £2,500 in compensation and a victim surcharge of £187. The court heard that Brown has no prior convictions in the UK.

The singer had been in London for performances related to his '11:11' tour. District Judge Daniel Sternberg, in delivering the sentence, noted the seriousness of the offence but acknowledged Brown's prompt guilty plea.
